Young Mind Dive Into Sustainability: Student of Axis Colleges Explore Sewage Treatment Plant, Jajmau, Kanpur In a unique blend of learning and environmental awareness, students from Axis Colleges of Civil Engineering embarked on an eye opening educational journey to the Sewage Treatment Plant at Jajmau, gaining firsthand experience on how cities manage on of their most critical yet overlooked system- wastewater treatment.
The visit was organised to provide students with firsthand knowledge about the process involved in treating wastewater before it is released back into the environment.
From the moment the student arrived, curiosity buzzed through the air as plant officials welcomed them with presentation highlighting the importance of wastewater treatment in ensuring public health, sustainability and ecological balance.
The guided tour began at the primary screening units, where large debris is removed from incoming sewage.
Students moved through each phase from sedimentation tank to aeration chambers and chlorination units- witnessing how raw sewage is scientifically transformed into clean, reusable water.
Each stage sparked thoughtful questions, ranging from “ How is sludge disposed off? to “ Can this water be used for farming?”The plant engineers responded with detailed explanations, showcasing the blend of biology, chemistry and technology involved in modern treatment processes.
The tour ended with an open discussion where students reflected on what they had seen. The visit not only deepened their understanding of environmental science but also instilled a stronger sense of civic duty.
Many pledged to adopt more water- conscious habits and spread awareness among their peers.Faculty coordinators Mr. Jyoti Swaroop Pandey, Mr. Sikander expressed gratitude to the plant authorities:
